Hi, I'm Heidi
H.R. Boyd is the wife of a fly-boy, mother of three sons, and lover of words. Her mother claims she started speaking in full sentences before age two, telling stories every waking moment. After she grew up, she dedicated eight years to raising her family before her focus turned back to telling stories. She enjoyed small-town Montana life for sixteen years and still considers Three Forks to be her hometown. She now lives in Northwest Arkansas in a house full of boys, with two cats who continually compete with her computer for dominance of her lap. She has won several awards for her writing and has completed six novels. Paint the Grass is her first published work.
My Story
Words have always been my happy place, which is why I carry a book with me everywhere I go. When I see a new place for the first time, I describe it in my head as I would to my readers. I began writing stories when I was in high school and became a full-time author when my kids became full-time students. The strongest thread throughout my life is woven with my love of words. Most days you’ll find me sitting in my comfy spot, with Diet Dr Pepper in hand, staring out at the trees swaying over the lake in front of my house, listening to the birds sing, while I create people and places with the words I love.
I write heartfelt book-club Women’s Fiction that will make readers laugh and cry, quirky Middle Grade fiction with neurodiverse MCs, and Young Adult contemporary fantasy with rich settings that come to life. In the past few years, I have been selected as a mentee in Pitch Wars, won two Twitter contests, and placed first and second in the chapter contest at the Storymakers Conference in Utah. I graduated college with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a minor in English literature. I’m also a member of SCBWI, WFWA, and The Storymakers Tribe.
I’m lucky enough to live in Bella Vista, Arkansas in a house full of boys: my husband David, my three sons, Zachary, Michael and AJ; and my twin cats who love to fetch.
